How the Skin Reacts in Winter: Understanding the Aggressors and Adapting Your Routine

In winter, the skin needs specific products to protect it from the cold, dehydration, and temperature fluctuations. Here is a selection of product types to prioritize to nourish, repair, and protect your skin during the cold season:

1. Rich Moisturizing Cream

Moisturizing creams are essential for maintaining skin hydration. In winter, it is important to opt for richer formulas that will help strengthen the skin barrier and retain moisture. Look for creams containing ingredients such as shea butter, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or jojoba oil.

Examples:

  • Ultra-nourishing day cream: A cream based on shea butter or sweet almond oil to protect the skin from dryness.
  • Repairing cream for dry skin: A cream with high lipid content to strengthen the skin barrier.

Nourishing Serums

Serums are more concentrated than creams and allow you to target specific needs such as dehydration or radiance. In winter, choose serums based on vitamin C (for radiance) or vitamin E (for its antioxidant properties).

Examples:

  • Hyaluronic acid serum: This serum attracts and retains water in the skin, providing intense hydration.
  • Detoxifying serum: For regenerated, nourished, revitalized, and plumped skin.

5. Gentle Scrubs

Exfoliation is always important to remove dead cells, but it is essential to choose gentle scrubs in winter. Scrubs based on sugar, sand, or fruit acids (AHA) are better suited for fragile and dehydrated skin.

Examples:

  • Gentle sugar or coffee-based scrub: To exfoliate gently without damaging the skin.
  • Gentle chemical exfoliant: Opt for trace elements and marine extracts, so the complexion regains radiance and freshness.

Sunscreen

Even in winter, the skin can be damaged by UV rays, especially if you are exposed to the sun in the mountains or near snow that reflects light. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or 50 sunscreen to protect your skin from premature aging and winter sunburns.

Examples:

  • Mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin: Provides natural protection without chemical ingredients.
  • Moisturizing sunscreen: A combination of SPF protection and hydration to prevent dryness.

 Hand Cream

Hands are particularly prone to dryness and cracking during winter. A repairing hand cream, rich in nourishing and soothing active ingredients, is essential.

Examples:

  • Repairing cream: Hydrates and nourishes dry hands.
  • Provitamin B5 hand cream: Provides intense repair and a feeling of comfort.
