Fighting cellulite - Tips to adopt

Cellulite generally appears on the thighs and buttocks, but can also occur in other areas such as the arms, calves, or abdomen.

According to studies, cellulite affects between 80 and 90% of women. Cellulite is also known as orange peel skin, due to its texture.

Cellulite can affect both men and women, but it is more common in women due to different distributions of fat, muscle, and connective tissue.

There are many causes of cellulite:

Hormonal factors and age

Hormones likely play an important role in the development of cellulite. Estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are all involved in the cellulite production process.

As menopause approaches, fat cells (adipocytes) also enlarge as estrogen levels decrease.

These factors combine to make fat deposits more visible, and the breakdown of collagen worsens the dimpling effect. Age also makes the skin less elastic, thinner, and more prone to sagging.

Genetic factors

Genetic factors can influence a person’s metabolic rate, the distribution of fat under the skin, ethnicity, and circulatory problems. These factors can increase the risk of developing cellulite.

Diet

People who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, and salt, and too little fiber, or who do not drink enough water, are likely to have a greater amount of cellulite.

It can also be more common in smokers, people who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in the same position for long periods.

Wearing tight underwear can restrict blood circulation, which may contribute to the formation of cellulite.

Cellulite is more widespread in people who are overweight, but thin and athletic people can also have it. It is more likely to occur after the age of 25, but it can also affect young people, including teenagers.

A healthy, balanced diet, quitting smoking, and an active lifestyle—including sports such as swimming or cycling—can help reduce orange peel skin.

Several treatments can be recommended to address cellulite.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has reviewed a number of techniques that may reduce the appearance of cellulite, such as ultrasound, radiofrequency, laser, etc.
These technologies provide convincing and rapid results. Expect 6 sessions on average for a complete program.
It is recommended to consult a slimming expert to undergo a personalized assessment and receive a tailored, customized program.
